About AHCC
The Hate Motivated Crime and Incidents Provincial Strategy Committee was formed in 2002 to develop a province-wide framework that encourages and supports a collaborative, integrated approach to preventing, enforcing and responding to hate and bias motivated activities in Alberta. The impetus for this committee came out of the community and policing agencies that met in Ottawa and Red Deer to look at ways to best address these issues. The name was changed to the Alberta Hate Crime Committee in 2006.
The committee is made up of volunteers from government, policing and community sectors who have dedicated their time and expertise to research and education on hate crime in Alberta.
We wish to thank the Human Rights Education and Multiculturalism Fund for its ongoing support of our projects and initiatives to educate Albertans regarding hate crime.
The AHCC also gratefully acknowledges funding and support from the Stollery Foundation, Butler Foundation, RCMP, and Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police.
Awareness Day
The fifth annual Hate Crime Awareness Day was a great success, taking place in Edmonton, Lethbridge and Calgary. As in the previous years, the event took place during the week of the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week, sponsored by the Federal Department of Justice. This year’s theme was "Taking Action".
